The History Gallery of Coventry!

Tamie & Meera:

We exhibited the History Gallery and saw the history of Coventry. It focuses on three important periods from Coventry’s past – the medieval, the Victorian and the modern in 3 sections called City of Spires, City of Industry and City of Dreams 😀

Meera:

I thought the exhibition was really fun and interactive because there were alot of activities to do! The each sections were very attracive to look at. The type writers looked very cool because if we still had one of them now, it would take us ages to finish of something for instance our homework!! :@ Also the telephones are very dodgy because if your in an emergency and you want to call the police or someone it’ll take you years to just dial….999!!!! Sheeesh! Crazy or what?!?! Overall, the gallery was a nice place to visit for the day.

Tamie:

The section ‘City of Spires’ appealed to me because you could dress up in war gear which was fun as you got to feel how heavy the helmets and chainmails actually were rather than just reading about it and the curators of the gallery have used colour on that section very well!

Jobs for us!!

Tamie:

I will like to be a hair and make-up artist if i had the chance to pick a job in the media/ film industry. Make-up and Hair Designers usually work on feature films and high budget television dramas and must be proficient in both make-up and hair techniques. Make-up and Hair are key elements in the overall design of films or television productions, creating a look for the characters in relation to social class, and time periods, and any other elements required to create the desired illusion. I like working with people so this job will bring out my poeple skills…lol! 😀

Career routes

Make-up and Hair Designers are usually experienced personnel who have been employed in the film and/or television industries for 10 to15 years, working in a variety of genres including commercials, pop promos, corporate productions, light entertainment, documentary dramas, etc.  They may have started their careers working as Trainees, progressing to Make-up and Hair Assistants, to Make-up and Hair Artists working on larger and more complex productions, and finally to Make-up and Hair Designers.  Progress through the department is usually based on skills and experience, which is acquired by on the job training, while assisting established Make-up Artists and Hairdressers.

Meera: I would like to work with the director so basiclly a producer 😀 It is a hard job but I would like to create things and work in a team. Well to become a true successful movie producer it is best to receive a degree in business as a base. Producers are all about the money, there is really no artistic aspect of producing that is important, as all of the artistic aspects of a film are handled by the director and artistic teams 🙂 As the originator of such a large project as a film production there is no predetermined route to becoming a Film Producer. A number of colleges offer courses in film producing; however, it is impossible to master all the necessary skills by study alone. So i will need LUCY to help me just a great friend who will help me through university becuase she is sooooooooooooooo clever!!!!!!! 😀 😛 Hope t0o see you soon with a bit of gud luck and magic!!!!!!!!! xx luv ya peeps :O

Art Since 1900

Meera & Tamie:We have visited the ‘Art Since 1900’ exibition at the Herbert Art Gallery.

We explored 2 famous British artists called LS Lowry and Ben Nicholson.

LS Lowry

‘Laurence Stephen Lowry (1 November 1887 – 23 February 1976) was an English artist born Stretford, Lancashire. Many of his drawings and paintings depict nearby Salford and surrounding areas, including Pendelbury.Lowry is famous for painting scenes of life in the industrial districts of Northen England during the early 2oth century. He had a distinctive style of painting and is best known for urban landscapes peopled with human figures often referred to as “matchstick men”. He also painted mysterious unpopulated landscapes, brooding portraits, and the secret ‘marionette’ works (the latter only found after his death).’ from Wikipedia

Tamie: This peice of artwork is called Ebbw Vale by LS Lowry made in 1960. ”Fairly faithful record of famous Welsh Valley Lowry is best known for his paintings of industrial scenes featurimg his famous ‘Matchstick’ figures.

Ben Nicholson

‘Benjamin Lauder Nicholson,  (10 April 1894 – 6 February 1982) was an english abstract painter. His first notable work was following a meeting with the playwright J.M Barrie on holiday in Rustington, Sussex in 1904. As a result of this meeting, Nicholson did a poster for Peter Pan.Nicholson was exempted from World War 1 military service due to asthma. He travelled to New York in 1917 for an operation on his tonsils, then visited other American cities, returning to England in 1918. From 1920 to 1933 he was married to the painter Winifred Nicholson and lived in London. After his first exhibition of figurative works in London in 1922, his work began to be influenced by Synthetic Cubism, and later by the primitive style of Rousseau.’ from Wikipedia.

Meera:This peice of art work is from Benjamin Nicholson. This painting is done by oil and pencil on canvas. This painting is both abstract and a still life. It can be seen as a glass on a table.  Ben Nicholson is concerned with the balance between 2 sets of shapes.

Review of Elements exibition! :D

Meera:The herbert art gallery is having a gallery opened to the public inspired by the four elemnts which are: earth, water, air and fire! (burn baby burn…soz…i couldn’t help myself). There was different sections for each element.

Tamie and Meera:We thought this was aimed for young teenagers and children as it contained interactive activites to do, films to watch, objects to feel, sounds to hear through headphones and can play music using the natural instruments.

Tamie:This is the ‘fire’ section where you could play the natural instruments and where you could feel  the different different temperatures on the thermal interactive handpad in different different places like: antartic, woodland, tropical rainforest and the desert.

Meera: liked the temperature interactive handpad because when you put your hand on the pads the backgrounds changed colour and also each of the pads were different temperatures!!

Tamie (that’s me) i liked the exibition as a whole as it showed the different elements in sections, touching and feeling part was interesting look at picture below:
